Singapore Mathematics League
SML Online is a three-hour team contest for students in Singapore secondary schools and pre-university institutions. Teams of three to five work together on a shared account to solve 40 problems worth 3 to 6 points each, plus three additional questions, A, B and C, worth 8 points each. Rankings appear on a leaderboard, and the top 10% of teams receive Gold.
Who can join?
All participants must be current students in Singapore secondary schools or pre-university institutions (Junior College, Millennia Institute, Polytechnic, ITE, or equivalent). Teams must have 3, 4 or 5 members, and teammates can come from different schools.
When is it?
SML Online will be held on a date to be announced, for a duration of 3 hours.

How does it work?
You can have up to four problems open at once, and you only see a problem’s title and points before you unlock it. When you solve or skip one, you can unlock another. A correct answer is checked instantly. If you’re wrong, you can try again after 30 seconds, but each wrong attempt takes 1 point off the problem’s value, down to a minimum of 1. Answers are 3-digit integers, so 90 is entered as 090. Your team has 7 skips in total, and each one costs 1 point.
What will be tested?
Problems draw on mathematics up to Secondary 6, A-Level or IB level, together with standard olympiad techniques in algebra, number theory, combinatorics and probability, and geometry.
Algebra
Inequalities, Polynomials, Functional equations
Number theory
Modular arithmetic, Diophantine equations, Primes
Combinatorics and probability
Counting, Pigeonhole principle, Probability
Geometry
Circles, Triangle centres, Trigonometry

Questions
- Are there separate rounds?
- No. SML Online is one three-hour round. Your team works through 40 numbered problems and the additional questions A, B and C at its own pace.
- What can we use during the competition?
- You can look up formulas and graph in Wolfram or Desmos. AI tools of any kind are not allowed.
- What do we need to submit?
- Every member screen records their device for the whole competition. Within an hour of the end, upload your rough work, numbered by problem. Teams missing either may be disqualified unless other proof is provided.
- What does the leaderboard show?
- Team names and schools only. Individual names and emails are never shown.
- What if a problem seems wrong?
- After the competition you can appeal problems, solutions or penalties. Accepted appeals update scores and rankings. Results are final once declared.
